Connect Taption to Windsurf

Taption transcribes audio and video, with transcript text and SRT/VTT captions and subtitles available through MCP. Configure the MCP connection in Windsurf and authorize Taption to access your transcripts and subtitle content in Cascade. After retrieving a planning meeting transcript, ask Cascade to outline the agreed approach or identify unresolved technical questions before you work on the project.

Connect your Taption library to Cascade, then use it in a conversation.

Using Devin Local? (opens in a new tab)

These steps are for Cascade in Windsurf. Newer Devin Desktop versions use Devin Local for new conversations; its MCP setup is separate.

1. Open Cascade

In Windsurf, press Cmd+L on Mac or Ctrl+L on Windows/Linux to open Cascade. In Devin Desktop, open an existing Cascade conversation from history.

Use a project folder you trust. Cascade is unavailable in Restricted Mode.

2. Open MCP configuration

At the top right of Cascade, open … (Actions). In the MCPs section, choose Open MCP config file. The editor opens mcp_config.json.

Use the file opened by the app; its location differs between Windsurf and Devin Desktop.

3. Add Taption

Copy the configuration below into mcp_config.json. Save with Cmd+S on Mac or Ctrl+S on Windows/Linux.

Already have servers? Keep them and add only the taption entry inside mcpServers. No Taption API key or Authorization header is needed.

  "mcpServers": {
    "taption": {
      "serverUrl": "https://api.taption.com/mcp-custom"
    }
  }
}

4. Allow access

Follow the sign-in prompt to open Taption in your browser. Sign in, check your account, review the permissions, and choose ALLOW ACCESS. Return to the app when authorization finishes.

Sign-in may appear after saving or when you first use a tool. If already connected, continue to Check the tools.

5. Check the tools

Return to Cascade → … (Actions) → MCPs. Turn on taption and confirm that its four tools are available.

The tools are list_transcripts, get_transcript, transcribe, and translate_transcript. If they are missing, restart the app and complete any sign-in request.

6. Try a message

In your Cascade conversation, choose Code below the message box and send the message below. Review and approve list_transcripts if asked.

Reading transcripts does not use transcription minutes. Starting a new transcription does.

Cascade should show your recent Taption transcripts, or tell you there are none yet.

Need help connecting?

If your menus differ, open mcp_config.json from the MCP controls in your version. On a team account, ask your administrator to enable MCP and allow taption. In Devin Desktop, use an existing Cascade conversation or follow the Devin Local guide above.

No connection? Check that the configuration is saved as valid JSON, restart the app, and complete sign-in. No transcripts? Confirm you connected the right Taption account; an empty library is a valid result.
