Connect Taption to Claude Code

Taption transcribes audio and video, with transcript text and SRT/VTT captions and subtitles available through MCP. Add its HTTP MCP server to Claude Code and sign in to retrieve recorded requirements during a terminal coding session. Taption supplies the transcript text; you can then ask Claude Code to extract requirements and draft implementation notes before you start coding.

You’ll need Claude Code installed and signed in, plus a Taption account. Adding the server is a one-time setup; you’ll then sign in to Taption.

Install Claude Code(opens in a new tab)
  1. Add Taption

Open a terminal in your project folder and run the Terminal command below. The .mcp.json tab is an alternative configuration; use only one method. If Taption is already added, continue to step 2.

    Claude Code

claude mcp add --transport http taption https://api.taption.com/mcp-custom

The command makes Taption available in this project for your user account. Add --scope user to the command to use it across all your projects.

  2. Open Claude Code

In the same terminal and folder, run the command below. If Claude Code is already open, exit and reopen it to load the new connection.

    claude
  3. Start Taption sign-in

Type /mcp inside Claude Code and press Enter. Select taption, then choose the authentication option to open your browser. This is a Claude Code command, not a terminal command.

    /mcp
  4. Allow access in Taption

In your browser, sign in to Taption, check the account and permissions, then click ALLOW ACCESS. Return to Claude Code when sign-in finishes. No Taption API key is needed.

  5. Check the connection and try a message

Open /mcp again and check that taption is connected. Close the menu and send the message below in Claude Code. Approve the list_transcripts tool if asked; this reads your library without using transcription minutes.
