Connect Taption to ChatGPT

Taption transcribes audio and video, with transcript text and SRT/VTT captions and subtitles available through MCP. Add Taption as a custom MCP plugin in ChatGPT on the web to request transcriptions and bring completed transcript text into your conversation. After Taption provides the text, ask ChatGPT to summarize a meeting, identify action items, or answer questions about an interview.

Follow these six steps in ChatGPT on the web. No coding is needed.

Open ChatGPT (opens in a new tab)

Before you start: have your ChatGPT and Taption sign-in details ready. Your ChatGPT account or workspace must allow custom MCP connections.

1. Open Plugins

Open ChatGPT and sign in. Choose Customize in the left navigation, then Plugins. At the top right, open Add and choose Add custom MCP server.

The four numbered callouts below show the path. Button labels are shown in English; yours may be translated.

2. Enter details

Enter Taption as the Name. The icon and description are optional. Under Connection, select Server URL and paste the complete URL shown below, including /mcp-custom.

Choose OAuth for Authentication. Leave Advanced OAuth settings unchanged. You will sign in with Taption, so no API key is needed.

3. Create plugin

Scroll to the bottom of the form and read ChatGPT’s warning. If you agree, tick I understand and want to continue (1), then select Create as a plugin (2).

Taption sign-in may appear during creation or installation. Follow the Allow access step whenever it appears, then return to ChatGPT.

4. Install Taption

Back in ChatGPT, review the Taption plugin and its four tools shown here, then install it.

If ChatGPT asks you to connect your account now, complete Taption sign-in and Allow access, then return here.

5. Allow access

Sign in to Taption if prompted. Check the email address to confirm the account you want ChatGPT to use, review the permissions, then click ALLOW ACCESS. To switch accounts, choose Use a different account.

Email and password users must verify their email first. If you already approved this connection, continue to the next step.

You can disconnect it at any time in Taption.

After you allow access, you will return to chatgpt.com.

6. Try a message

Start a new ChatGPT conversation. Type @ in the message box and select Taption. Paste the example message, then send it.

Reading your recent transcripts does not start a transcription job. You only use Taption transcription minutes when creating a new job.

Connection check: ChatGPT should show your recent transcripts, or tell you that there are none yet.

Need help connecting?

No Plugins or custom MCP option? Open ChatGPT in a desktop browser and check your account’s available features. For a work or school account, ask your administrator whether custom connections are allowed. Button names can vary; see the official guide below.

Connected but no transcripts? Check that you authorized the right Taption account. An empty list is normal for a new account. If ChatGPT cannot connect, repeat sign-in and check the full server URL.
